How to Use a Step-in Dog Harness

If your adorable woofer is a bit pully on the lead, we really recommend using a dog harness.

Step-in dog harnesses are known for their comfort and support as the design helps to distribute pressure evenly, reducing the risk of injury to your dog's neck and spine. It also provides increased security and control, making your daily escapades much more relaxed and fun. Yay.

A step-in harness is very easy to put on and take off, making it stress-free for both you and your pooch. Often dogs don’t like being approached ‘head first’, so a step-in harness is the perfect alternate to an over-the-head harness. Also if your best mate is full of beans and a bit of a wriggler, this is a super quick alternate to unravelling complicated harnesses with an array of fastenings.

Mini Mabel harnesses come in 5 brilliant designs and are made from soft comfortable material. They have 3 adjustment settings enabling your dog to have a secure snug fit, and feature a strong ABS safety buckle with 2 stainless steel D-rings to attach your lead.

Putting on the harness couldn’t be easier! To start out, have your dog stand over the harness. Ensure the Mini Mabel logo is facing the front. Have the chest strap in the centre, then place one of your dog's front paws in one of the loops and their other front paw in the other loop. Now pull the harness up the sides of your dog’s body and click the strap buckle together on their back behind the shoulder blades. So easy!

Now it’s time to adjust the straps for a secure and comfy fit. The main two straps both have adjustment sliders, as does the third smaller adjustment point on the chest. Once you have made your adjustments and the harness is fitting snug, ensure it’s not too tight by placing two fingers in-between your dog and the harness. At the same time ensure it’s not too loose so it doesn’t slip during your walk.

Choosing the right size is simple. Measure your dog’s chest behind its front legs and just up to above its shoulder blades (have a feel for them if you’re not quite sure). Please refer to our size guide and if you’re still unsure which size to buy, send a message.
